  • (Capt.) John Hancock was born 04 Mar 1753 probably in Hanover Co., VA and lived in Louisa Co., VA. He removed to Woodford, Fayette, and Franklin Cos., KY and then to Butler Co., OH. He died, 20 Oct 1827 in Hanover Twp., Butler Co., OH [at the home of his daughter, Nancy (Hancock) Jones]. He married 07 May 1774 in Spotsylvania Co., VA or Louisa Co., VA to Nancy Ann Graves, daughter of Thomas Graves and Isabella Bartlett. Nancy was born 22 Jul 1756 in Spotsylvania Co., VA and died 06 Mar 1846 in Reily Twp., Butler Co., OH (at the family homestead).
    • Their son, John A. (either Adams or Alexander) Hancock, was born, Oct 1786 prob. in Louisa Co., VA and removed with his parents to Kentucky and then to Ohio and lived in Reily Twp., Butler Co., OH. He died before 16 Apr 1850 (date of probate) in Reily Twp., Butler Co., OH. He married 10 Jun 1806 in Campbell Co., KY to Lucy Smith, dau/of Henry Smith & Winifred Holt. • John Hancock was born 1743 in Surry/Sussex Co., VA and married Sarah. This John always signed his name "J". He died in 1788 in Randolph Co., NC leaving a will naming his wife, Sarah, and children:
  Isaiah Hancock [m. Cassandra (likely Cassandra Dean, dau of Charles & Ursula Dean)], died in Muhlenberg Co., KY., Vachel Hancock (m. Sarah), died in Harrison Co., IN., John Hancock (m. Catherine Williams), died in Randolph Co., NC., Artishey Hancock, William Hubert Hancock (m. Rhoda Cartwright), Mary Hancock, & Sarah Hancock [m. John Carman (this is found in the Carman family bible records)]
  The children Isaiah, Vachel, and John are shown in Rockingham Co., NC signing a petition asking that Rockingham Co. be divided to form Guilford Co., NC. Interestingly, that division did occur. Then later Guilford was divided to form Randolph Co., where John (J) died.
  • John and Sarah's son, Isaiah Hancock, was born 12 Aug 1760 in Halifax Co., VA and died between 12 Jul and Sep 1839 in Muhlenburg Co., KY. He married Cassandra Deane.
    This family, for the most part, moved to Muhlenburg Co., KY.
