  • William Hancock was born circa 1580 in England. He was a member of the Second London Company which established a settlement in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607, and is believed to have been killed by the Indians on 22 Mar 1622. Shortly after 1630, three of William's sons, Augustine, Simon and William came to America and became prominent planters in Virginia.
    • Son, Simon Hancock, was born in England about 1610 and died 1654 in Lower Norfolk, VA. He married Sarah Gye in Lower Norfolk, VA, 26 Aug 1647. Sarah died 1689 in Lower Norfolk, VA.
      • Their son, William Hancock, was born in Henrico Co., VA in 1648. William died Apr 1687 in Lynhaven, Lower Norfolk, VA. He married Elizabeth Cockroft in Henrico Co., VA in 1668. Elizabeth was born in Rotterdam, Holland in 1643 and died in 1685 in Lower Norfolk, VA.
        • Their son, Samuel, was born in Lower Norfolk, VA in 1675 and died in 1760 in Chesterfield Co., VA. He married Johan Hancock in Henrico Co., VA, 15 Apr 1700. Johan was born in Henrico Co., VA in 1680. She died before 1760 in Chesterfield Co., VA. She was the daughter of Robert Hancock and Johan Ligon.
          This Samuel Hancock (#4) is the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) of the four DNA participants, H08908, H17477, H08947 & H09723.

                • Thomas and Lucy's son, (Maj) Robert Asa Hancock, was born in 1840 in Henry Co., KY and died in 1914 in Oldham Co., KY. He married Martha Ann "Mattie" Webb in 1865 in Trimble Co., KY. She was born in 1843 in Henry Co., KY and died in 1922 in Jefferson Co., KY.

      • Their son, James Hancock, (born 1789, Fairfield County, SC and died December 9, 1868, in Cobb County, GA). Married Sarah Scaife in Chester County, SC. After Sarah's death (date unknown), James married Margaret Evans on 28 December, 1828.
        • Their son, Albert Garrison Hancock, was born around 1816. Family tradition is that he left home in the mid-1840's "to fight the Mexicans", and he was apparently killed as he never returned. (It would be nice if someone could help resolve the answer to his fate!)
          • His son, Albert Garrison Hancock, married Mary Bowden on November 6, 1837, in Henry County, GA. She was born 6 January 1820, Georgia, and died 30 August 1911.
            • Their son, Jesse Bowden Hancock, was born 24 August 1838; died 3 September 1912. He married Bettie Richardson 25 Oct 1877 in LIncoln Co., AR. She was born 24 March, 1861, in Drew Co., AR.
              • Their son, Francis "Frank" Askew Hancock, was born 2 October 1896 in Milo, Ashley County, Arkansas, and died 28 May 1994. His wife was Doris Noble..

• Elisha D Hancock was born about 7 Aug 1808, died in Oct 1866 in Randolph County, North Carolina about age 58, and was buried in Oak Grove Umc, Randolph County, North Carolina. Elisha married Anna Kearns.
  • Their son, Calvin Hill Hancock, was born on 19 Nov 1841 in North Carolina, died on 7 Feb 1910 in Greensboro, NC at age 68, and was buried in Greenhill Cemetery. Calvin married Cynthia Ann Lassiter on 5 Feb 1868 in Randolph County. NC.
    • Their son, Edward Percy Hancock, was born on 31 Mar 1871 in Randolph County, North Carolina, died on 29 Apr 1942 in Piedmont Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC at age 71, and was buried on 1 May 1942 in Greenhill Cemetery, Greensboro, NC. Edward married Martha "Mattie" Vaughn.

• John Hancock was born in 1811 in South Carolina and died before 1860 in Smith Co., Mississippi. He married Mary Anderson who was born in SC in 1809 and, also, died before 1860.
  • Their son, Phillip Pryor Hancock was born in Smith Co., MS in 1836 and died in Laurel, MS on 11 sep 1901. He married, first, Annie "Timpey" Sims about 1863, second, Celia Sims about 1870 and third, Zordia Crosby about 1890. Phillip was the father of 15 children.

    • Phillip and Annie's son, Wiley Jefferson HANCOCK, was born on 11 Oct 1866. He died on 5 March 1938. He was buried on 7 March 1938 in Fellowship Cem., Taylorsville, Smith County, Mississippi. He married Annie Viola ANDERSON on 12 Jan. 1890.
      • Their son, William Troy HANCOCK, was born on 8 Feb 1892 in Smith County, MS. He died on 17 Nov 1965. He was buried in Roseland Cem., Gloster, Amite County, MS. He married Allie GATEWOOD on 21 Feb 1916.
