• John Sharp, whose exact birth location is unknown, is believed to have been born about 1746 in Augusta County, VA. He married Margaret Blain in about 1775. She was born about 1750 in Rawley Springs, Rockingham County, VA. They had 12 children, all born in Rockingham, Augusta or Bath County, VA. In 1803 they purchased land west of the Alleghany Mountains on Knapps Creek, later to become Pocahontas County, and established their home there. Both John and Margaret died in Frost, Pocahontas County, VA, John about 1820, and Margaret unknown.
  • William Sharp, the seventh son of John and Margaret, was born about 1789 in Rockingham, Augusta or Bath County, VA. He married Margaret Nesbitt on February 20, 1810, who was born about 1790 in Rockbridge County, VA. They lived in the Frost, VA, and had three children. Margaret died about 1870 and William died December 20, 1871.
    • John Sharp, the third child of William and Margaret, was born April 16, 1813 in Frost, VA. He married Elizabeth Slaven Wade on September 5, 1839, born August 3, 1818 in Highland County, VA. They lived in Frost, VA and had nine children. John died January 4, 1888 and Elizabeth died March 2, 1915, both in Frost, WV.
      • William Alexander Gilmer Sharp, the fifth child of John and Elizabeth, was born September 26, 1848 in Frost, VA. He married Nancy Elizabeth Arbogast on September 24, 1868, who was born July 14, 1849 in Pocahontas County, VA, near Frost. They had nine children. William died October 12, 1914 and Elizabeth died May 19, 1917. Both are buried on the property where they lived together for 46 years.
        • John Mitchell Sharp, the seventh child of William and Nancy, was born July 10, 1887 in Frost, WV. He married Edyth Laura Morrison on September 3, 1921 in Renick, WV, who was born January 19, 1895 in Lobelia, WV. They lived in Frost and Renick, WV, and had six children, three stillborn. John Mitchell died December 7, 1961 in Charlottesville, VA and Edyth Laura died November 11, 1980 in Lewisburg, WV.
